The Respite House of Marion County will serve the families of youth ages 6-13 years old diagnosed with a severe emotional disorder/disability (SED). At the same time, their parent or caregivers will have the opportunity to rest and refuel. The importance of creating a place where a parent/caregiver feels comfortable leaving their child/youth while they get to focus on self-care is a priority for us. When a caregiver is overwhelmed or exhausted, it can compromise their judgment and put children in danger of neglect, abuse or worse. With our mental health system experiencing unprecedented changes from the burden of our current world climate, parents/caregivers don’t have the necessary support needed to manage difficulties, and we want to reduce that burden. The Respite House of Marion County will fill a void for that additional support while serving as a temporary home away from home for the youth to receive care from highly skilled professionals and gain useful life and social skills to assist them in their everyday lives. We hope to make an impact that will make life easier on the parent/caregiver once the child returns home. TRH-Marion County will be open six days per week, 24 hours per day, to serve this specific population of youth and families. By partnering with us, you are helping us build a stronger community and support system for the families.
